Hello 9-1-1, I would like to report a ROBBERY at Fenway
(05-11-01)
In a game where the events that occurred prior to the bottom of the 9th inning will receive no mention, the Red Sox were handed their third straight loss as they fell to the Oakland A's, 7-6. With two on and one out in the aforementioned bottom of the 9th, Manny is at the plate, about to hit a game winning homerun, triple or double, but that opportunity is taken away from him as Oakland's relief man clunks Ramirez on the back of his wrist. With the bases loaded, Troy O'Leary hits a a ball to left field and Boston's man at third tags and appears to score, but NO! Everett attempts to take third on the play and is thrown out. The umpires rule that the out occurred before the runner crossed home and the game ends on a blown call by an umpiring crew that has had their share of questionable calls.
XFL Folds; Nation Weeps
(05-11-01)

In an announcement that caught everyone off guard, NBC has decided not
to run XFL football next year. Despite the XFL's stellar ratings and huge
fan base, it just was not enough to satisfy the executives at the Peacock
Network. During the span of its inuagural/farewell season, the XFL was the
highest rated program of the night in its time slot on NBC every night it
aired. With astonishing facts like this, the sporting community has been
left wondering what went wrong. |
Sox get Bounced in Rubber Game
(05-10-01)
Manager Jimy Williams and catcher Jason Veritek were both ejected in the
5th inning of tonight's game after Veritek hotly contested a close play at
the plate that resulted in the Mariners first of 5 runs on the night. In
his first Major League game since injuring his knee last season, John Valentine
returned with a bang as he doubled in his first at bat. It wouldn't be enough
though, as Seattle tops Boston for the second straight night.
